What is Shavette?

Shavette is a razor with interchangeable blades. Unlike traditional straight razors, which require honing and stropping, shavettes use disposable single-edge blades—often the same blades used in double-edge safety razors, simply snapped in half lengthwise (instructions below). This makes them a low-maintenance option for achieving a straight razor-style shave.

Types of shavettes

While shavettes all operate on the same basic principle, they generally fall into two main categories: Classic and Japanese-style.

Classic shavettes

Japanese-style shavettes have a straight, non-folding design. Although less common than the classic type, many users prefer this style for its simplicity and direct handling—it ultimately comes down to personal preference.

Japanese-style razors

Japanese-style razors are straight, i.e. without turning. The more common one is classic, but some users swear by the Japanese style. This is a matter of taste.
